Our recent workshop on Aerospace Science and Technology was featured in the February 2025 edition of the KSEA e-Letter. Heart Tissue Heads to Space | Johns Hopkins Medicine

Johns Hopkins Medicine researchers are collaborating with NASA to send human heart “tissue-on-a-chip” specimens into space as early as March. The project is designed to monitor the tissue for changes in heart muscle cells’ mitochondria (their power supply) and ability to contract in low-gravity conditions.

과학기술 국제협력, 영양가 따지고 강하게 요구할 줄 알아야 (동아사이언스)

"한국은 지금 과학기술 분야에서 '영양가 있는' 국제 협력을 해야 합니다. 그냥 덥석 받지 말고 국가 수준에서 이익을 잘 계산해서 실질적인 도움이 될 수 있는 협력을 해야 한다는 뜻입니다. 양보할 수 없는 선을 확실히 정하고 강하게 요구할 줄 알아야 합니다."


지난 11일 서울 강남 한국과학기술회관에서 열린 '제2회 세계 한인 과학기술인 대회'에 참석한 서은숙 미국 메릴랜드대 물리학부 교수는 '과학 외교'의 필요성을 강조하며 이같이 말했다. 그는 또 "연구자들이 과학기술에 전념할 수 있도록 관료주의에서 벗어나 제도와 행정 인프라를 잘 구축하고 우리 과학자들을 보호할 수 있어야 한다"며 장기적이고 실질적인 지원의 중요성에 대해서도 목소리를 높였다.
